So...I drop off CC#2 at his bus stop... another boy waiting there had picked a bunch of kumquats off a tree right next to the stop and had thrown them on the ground and stomped them... and was throwing them into the street for cars to run over... So I got out of my car...(cause I saw him doing it and all)... and thought this could go very badly for me. But I did it anyway--explaining to him that he shouldn't be picking someone else's fruit and making a mess out of the bus stop. (which is also a public transit stop) I told him to pick them up... and he did it. He was so ashamed and wouldn't even look at me. So when he sat down to wait for the bus--I held out my hand and said, "Hi I'm Ben's mom, Jennifer." He looked up at me--red eyes with tears and said, "My mom's name is Jennifer too." And I said, "Well Jennifers are good people."

perception is everything. i've been struggling ever since ted left me... he walked out the door and seems like we didn't see him again for a month. it was so hard on the crumbcakes to have a regular full time super dad... to having nothing. they were bitter and sad and depressed and they just couldn't understand why he left. he eventually told them he left because mommy didn't love him anymore. this of course was true but only partially. he failed to tell them why i didn't love him anymore... but even though i no longer loved him--i didn't want him to leave. i thought we would eventually work it out.

Now that it has been over a year since he left and he sees the crumbcakes on Saturday nights and Sunday and I have full custody... I opened a gallery called the eve-N-odd gallery. I have struggled all year to get this TINY gallery on the map. Tried to make tons of art to sell... sold a lot of paintings and rag dolls, but not enough to earn a living.

Last week my van was repossessed. My house is in foreclosure. It really looks like everything is falling apart and I seem to be unable to save it. Although after a year of living on almost nothing... I have learned to let things go. The house and contents must be liquidated. To me it seems like this huge task... I think about the two bins of collage materials in my studio/dining room that will probably end up in a dumpster and it breaks my heart. I think about my crumbcake's things... their baby toys that I saved... all the remnants that once defined us as a family.

I struggle all the time. I feel so depressed most of the time. I feel alone and unwanted all of the time. I will be losing the gallery when my lease is up. I really don't see how i can continue to work 60 hours a week at a job that I am not getting paid for. When I look at myself--I see a failure.

Hi everyone! I have been neglecting this blog... as I am now blogging HERE. I've opened a small gallery in the Crislip arcade in St. Petersburg, FL. I am very excited about this new venture! Opening night was last Saturday and it was very successful! Sketchbook Project: Arthouse Coop, Brooklyn NYC

This will be my third time participating in a sketchbook project with the Arthouse Co-op based in Brooklyn, NY. Last year I went to the opening. I got to check out sketchbooks from the Arthouse library. And thus I signed up to do it all over again. My theme this time was: Figuring You Out. I made it about me... figuring me out. The sketchbook is a collection of photographs taken by me mostly and enhanced or collaged in some way. Since my husband left me 9 months ago... I have been trying to figure me out. I am a mom. I am an artist. My biggest fear is being alone for the rest of my life. Seems like dating and meeting men are something of an anomaly for me. I feel ill equipped. Yet, here i am. I think I'll stick to art.

This Saturday night will be the opening of Trinkets from Heaven and other misunderstandings which is a collection of work that I have spent the last three months making. There will be a great variety of pieces from $5 to $1500. There are many $10 items. I want to make my work accessible to anyone that cares to own a piece. I call it--Art for the Masses. Most of it was made from recycled items or things that I already had in my studio home. There are 237 pieces for sale!

I hope people realize that investing in each other, in handmade, in local businesses is a really good way to keep St. Petersburg a destination art city!

The event is free! After you stop by the Morean please walk down to the 600 Block of Central Avenue to see the other shows and galleries that will be open. I also have work at Art On! Central and the Artpool Gallery. Artpool will be having a big art and fashion show that night!

I want to apologize to all my mail art friends... seems I've been such a slacker. But, in reality I've been working feverishly hard for an upcoming show in St. Petersburg. Actually I'll be in two shows in November and one in December. You can no longer find my work at Artful Living in St. Petersburg, FL. Turns out they didn't want my stuff and showed me to the door. Actually it has been somewhat of a relief as I have a lot to do for ArtOn Central and Artpool. So with the extra shows coming up and the local galleries... I feel utterly overwhelmed. I've also been posting on ebay and in my etsy vintage store. I shop at yardsales, estate sales and thrift shops to find special things to resell.

Everything has been such a struggle these days. This morning I posted, "These Days" by Nico on my facebook page. My sentiments exactly.

We recently got the opportunity to go to Panama City Beach, FL to observe the Feast of Tabernacles and Last Great Day. It was our first Feast without Ted. It was hard on the crumbcakes to be without their father but, we survived. We actually had a glorious time. We heard excellent messages at church and played in the clear water and on the white sandy beaches. I feel very blessed to have had this opportunity. I thank my parents and my church for making the trip possible.

Hi everyone! I've been working hard to get everything ready for the UR Toy story mail art show... a show that I have been working on for a YEAR! I've been advertising and collecting mail art for this show all year! I'll be displaying about 500 pieces of mail art from many different countries... I'm guessing at least 20 different countries. It's been an amazing year of art and i was happy to document all the pieces on my Jenniferzoe blog. This year I will also be hosting a Fluxus performance and poetry reading event! Stache Day at the Dali Museum

The crumbcakes and I dressed up for Stache day at the Dali. I should say... two of the cakes dressed up. #2 would have nothing of it. Two out of three ain't bad. We got more attention at the local Publix grocery store. I guess you don't see Dali impersonators every day at the grocery store.

I took my two crumbcakes and my nephew to the beach last night. There was a beautiful sunset. Here in St. Petersburg, FL we have no oil problems--YET.

There is an art project that I participated in called, "Fluxface in Space." Every piece of art created for this project will be going up into space via NASA! Anyone could upload a picture to go on one of two future NASA missions but to be a part of the art project... you had to send up a pic of you and your art. The details can be found HERE. Every month Artpool Gallery on first Avenue North... puts on a snazzy razzie art party. Marina Williams is the owner and orchestrator of these mind blowing events. If you come to m & m or just come to be a fly on the wall... you will have a great time! This past Saturday night was a huge night for Artpool with their Tra'shion fashion show. Area clothes designers put their greenness and recycling brains to work making fashion out of trash... or discarded goods. Fashion was the main event but there were so many other things going on... it's hard to even describe it all. You could have your face painted, you could watch artists demonstrating their painting techniques on canvas, inside was the bar and an art show on the walls as well as a huge selection of vintage items and clothing for sale. A couple of weekends ago... I was privileged to go on a hard-hat tour of the new Dali museum. She is being built to withstand a category 5 hurricane. Amazing and beautiful structure. Saturday Night in the Burg!

Saturday night...started the evening at Kahwa coffee and ended at the Globe Coffee Lounge. In between did the 600 Block and ArtON! Central gallery.

Had a lovely time with my friends Cherie and Britt Doughtie. At Kahwa saw the art of Chad Mize and Philip Clark, who work together as "Blue Lucy." The current show is called "Mugs." If you collect coffee mugs or the art of Blue Lucy... you will love this show. There is a mug for everyone... even JUDY!

There was a radical looking guy playing one of the hand made guitars outside of ArtON! Central. Totally fun times and saw some of my work on the walls and on the shelves there. Drop by and buy some local, handmade creations! (Shameless Plug... but i need the money...) Stopped by and saw Gallery Woo. In the photo with the Doughties is Bill Correira of Woo Galleries and Me!

Ended the night at the Globe Coffee Lounge where Cheri and I shared an unbelievable Asian meatloaf wrap. And then a slice of apple pie a la mode!! Joellen rocks the Globe with her superior delectable dishes (And affordable)!! Natty Moss Bond and Steve Peake and their band played some oldies but goodies and we jived out to their tunes... a PERFECT evening!

Last week crumbcake #1 found a birds nest... a mocking bird's nest to be more exact. Last week there were four chicks... today I only count three. Last week momma bird didn't seem to care too much about me taking a picture... This week--the chicks have more feathers and are slightly more cute and she dive bombed me three times. I wonder if she misses that fourth mouth to feed?

The concert was super fantab... as usual with the Ladies. The gal that opened for them was wonderful too... her name is Serena Ryder. I bought her CD and when they said she'd be in the lobby for autographs--I got up during her last song and went to stand in line to meet her. I was that impressed. I ended up being the first in line. You should buy her CD it is called, "Is It O.K." BUY IT. I can't get enough of her.

The hair cut

It seemed essential that today I would get the perfect haircut to start my new life. The gal tenderly massaged my head and thoughtfully washed my hair. I let myself totally relax and sat peacefully. She said I looked good for my age. She couldn't believe that I have three crumbcakes. I will be thirty seven this summer. I'm at peace with thirty seven. She asked me if I had God in my life. Yes, I go to church. She thought that would be the best place to heal myself and the crumbcakes. You know, cause you can't help but tell the beautician everything.

This morning I had a half hour between dropping the cakes off at school and the hair cut appointment. I went to starbucks and got a coffee. In the case they were out of low-fat blueberry cake. They did have the low fat cinnamon swirl cake. I asked for a piece. I only get sweets on a special occasion... a handful of times throughout any given year. Today was special wasn't it? I sat in an over-sized, grey, velvet chair--the kind that eats you up and sinks you in--like a hug from Grandma as a child. I read Perec... learning about a double murder at Chaumont-Porcien. Almost as fascinating as the bathtub scene pages before. I overhead one man say to another, "It's time to do what's right in God's eyes." He was a bald, tattooed-flip-flop-wearing man. Older than me by fifteen years. I was shocked to hear him say it so I wrote it down on the inside cover of, "Life a User's Manual." The two men watched me leave the coffee shop. I was wearing my favorite denim, red platforms and a white blouse that had more ruffles than I usually allow. I was also wearing a purple bra that you could see, through the cotton blouse. A simple, meaningless gesture of--"I don't really care right now." And I would venture to say, that most people won't notice or care either. My tiny acts of rebellion are quaint. Yet, they are my own.

After the hair cut... I walked to my car. Ten minutes left on the meter. I ate the low fat cinnamon swirl cake--licking each one of my fingers slowly and methodically. My new life just began.

The man at mazzaros... the cheese man... was quite pleased that I read the cheese descriptions. I told him that i enjoy the weekly education on a new cheese. And he said that he was quite pleased since he writes them.

I'm home alone and I'm going to enjoy this imported "Appenzeller" from Switzerland. Or at least enjoy a piece of it after lunch.

I was at an estate sale today where they were selling disposable underwear. And before you think that means something the least bit exciting...think again. Think of diapers for adults. Grandpa had died. I knew it from the small cross-stiched picture, "Grandfather means experienced father." And from the cookbooks... that start off in BBQing and end in the "Cooking for Diabetes." And that special bed pan sitting chair and the disposable underwear. I couldn't help feel a twinge of sadness over the box of received greeting cards and the unused car fluids that his son said he was trying to sell at one point in his life. Here I was a stranger, wandering through his home, touching his or their old things. His family was getting rid of everything for a song... and maybe his treasure can live on in a piece of my mail art or collage art.

In the end we will all be recycled... if not by worms in the soil then by strangers dollars at an estate sale and then lastly laid to rest on a burn pile or dump heap. The most we can do is to love now cause none of the stuff matters.

Sing with all your might

My middle crumbcake, crumbcake #2, B-man... sings as loud as he can at church. It is the most beautiful thing that I hear every Sabbath. His cousins and brother look at him funny and sometimes they laugh. Sometimes I laugh. To hear a person who sings with all their might can make you feel uncomfortable. It is such an honest gesture that it makes you blush or giggle with nervousness. And out of this feeling I have cracked a smile. A few weeks ago I leaned over to my father and said, "I wonder if anyone ever discouraged Bob Dylan from singing?" And Dad knew just what I meant as crumbcake #2 has a hint of Dylan in the sound of his voice. I know someone is expecting me to tell him to, "tone it down." But, I won't. No way. How long before the world tells him to conform... to quiet the enthusiasm? It's best to let him sing it loud for as long as possible. And he makes me sing my loudest too. After all we are singing to praise God... not to please men.

I made this after coming home from the Book about death show... so inspired by all those happenings in New York City... like meeting so many mail artists and meeting Bill Wilson and seeing his Ray Johnson collection and his May Wilson collection. Who would of thought that 7 months later this piece would be hanging in the Stendhal gallery as a part of a mail art collage piece by John Held? Originally mailed this to Bill Wilson. Bill gave it to Joel Cohen and Joel gave it to John Held... or at least that's the info I gathered...

Some mail art that I sent out... minus one piece... that has still yet to be mailed. Tomorrow Ted and I are leaving for the big Apple. It's going to be one of those HUGE mail art events... with a chance to meet people who I have only corresponded with...

I'll be performing at Printed Matter early Friday evening and then will be at the Katzs Deli... to attend a post-fluxus, post-NY, Choursbeedance meeting. Thursday night is the big Gaglione and Held show at the Maya Stendhal gallery...

I'm slightly nervous but also know that these are the people who I know and love and it's gonna be fun and it's gonna be good. Thank you Richard C. for letting me read a portion of your "Poems by Richard C." And thanks Ross Priddle for allowing me to read one of your poems. Wish you both could be there.

Sometimes I want to be Jack Bauer

Wow, that Jack... he sure saves the day, takes beating, electrocution, being shot, car accidents... and still--he keeps going. Jack Bauer is the ultimate man. He always knows exactly what to do. And for being a war ravaged soul... he still has a heart. Probably more unrealistic than any of us realize. Still, it's nice to have a goal in life...

Tomorrow I'm getting my hair done. It seems silly but it always makes me feel good about myself... I enjoy change. And with the hair I hope to make other changes in my life. What are those? I guess we'll all find out.

Next week I'm going to New York City. Seems to me that we'll be having a meeting at Katz's Deli... kicking it like Ray used to. I really can't believe how mail art has changed my life. I can't believe the people that I've met through the network of mail artists. I can't believe that I stood in Bill Wilson's basement and held Ray's work while drinking Bill's champagne. We are a strange lot of people. But we all share that love of mail. I feel so blessed to be a part of this group of dear friends. Can't wait to see you all next week.

Maybe I can bumble through life as JZ... or maybe I'll take the bull by the horns and be more Jack-like... either way... gonna attempt to save the day.

Last night I was talking with a gal who said she wouldn't go to an Artpool event cause you have to pay to get in. Ironically, you had to pay to be at this collage party/beer tasting event and have to pay to see almost all the shows that the Art Center displays. So for the price of a movie and a snack you can go to a fabulous art party at the Artpool. And if you want to just see the art on a different day--that is FREE. So I think Artpool has more free art than the Morean... I'm just saying. You do the math.

Saturday night opening of the Collage Party!

Yes, I had to go back Saturday night to see how things went opening night... arrived at about 7 pm and stayed until half past eight. I brought a few images from home, my exacto and my hot pink duct tape... cause you know I am a huge art nerd. I met a lovely couple who seemed to "get it." Maybe "get me." So I invited them to my Thursday night collage party... this Thursday at the Morean... from 6pm to 8 pm... be there or be square... or something like that. To be honest--I have no idea how many people might just turn up. I hope you all come though. I'm gonna do my best to have some hors d'oeuvres and drinks. One can never have enough friends, art and hors d'oeuvres!!

Friday was rainy, overcast and humid. Tommy and I headed over to the Morean Art Center to help Jorge Vidal install/set up the collage gallery. It will be a two week community event. I was somewhat shocked when Jorge told me to, "go to it" and I began putting things up on the walls. I was only laying a foundation for the masses to come and do what they pleased to it. So really... a rather meaningless job--and it's no wonder that he couldn't get some other local schlub to do it. But I believe in the idea of community art. And I believe in the idea that anyone can make art. I also just like being with people and creating something at the same time. Here are some pictures of the gallery at the end of the day... Tommy worked hard with Jorge stringing the yarn around the two poles. It was a tiresome day but at the end--I felt really good--like I lived in the moment. And that's all it was a moment in time.

It's been a long time since I wrote something important on this blog. I used to write how I felt. But perhaps it's too dangerous to actually say what one really thinks.
I licked a decal today from the "Maris Chemical Products Co..." Big mistake as the taste is lingering in my mouth. My favorite song in college was "Linger" by the Cranberries. I still like it today. Today I did a lot of laundry. And I actually folded it all... so it hasn't made a giant mountain on top of the couch. Do you know Jeff Crouch? He has a blog about pretend famous album covers... I email him photos and he makes new album covers. I made a fluxbox for Keith Buchholz's latest call. I covered it in black paper and fixed the nasty tasting label on the top, "Maris Chemical... " and wrote, "JZ in an oak box. Inside is all sorts of important things from my life. A time capsule of me. Which I am sure is not a flux box. But, oh well. The most important thing is an earring that my Grandma gave me. She died when I was 16.. of cancer. I used to have both earrings. In college I was dating the guy named Mr. X and lost one earring in his Cadillac. I was really upset about it. Probably an understatement...

I brought some pins made by the art students at Creative Clay in downtown St. Petersburg to New York City. I didn't know exactly what I was going to do with them. Strawberry Fields took over... and they became a part of the Imagine Peace symbol art piece for that day. The Mayor of Strawberry Fields will keep them in his archives of items left for John Lennon.

I've been thinking about getting a hair cut for about a month now. Last week I finally did it... and went red. It's strange cause I don't know who I am anymore... I look in the mirror and I don't recognize myself. Maybe the hair is just an outward manifestation of the inner struggle. Sometimes I think I don't fit in anywhere. I have no place to be. No place to feel accepted. I'm thirty six years old and I feel completely and utterly lost.

In recent news... Jeff Crouch is reinventing my work and thus a collaborative baby has been born. Take a look at Jeff's recent work HERE. Our work I guess. This is new territory for me. At least it feels new. I decided over the past couple years that I would say yes to new things. That I would live without fear. That I would not ignore people that cross my path. Or maybe I am crossing their's. It's amazing how the world wide web has connected us to so many of them. Me to you. Me to Jeff. Like the 24 zine... made possible by the internet. It really is quite amazing.

I'm gearing up for a new ABALCABAL zine... just waiting on a few more entries then I'll be able to assemble and send out that zine.

24 Hour Zine... and South Fluxus was borned January 27th 2010

Artist and Mail Artist... Brent Leopold... sent me a blank magazine with instructions to fill it up and add and pass it to Keith Buchholz, Fluxus St. Louis. So originally the zine was meant to be an add and pass... but, Last week I began making collages and got a good way through it when I thought... I should ask for submissions! I got on facebook and asked people to send me a piece of art, photo or poetry to add to the zine. I got about 10 responses in 3 hours. I added their works to my work and a zine was born. So the whole thing was put together in 24 hours. I named her "South Fluxus" and "SO FU" for short... the theme for this edition was: NOW... I like how fast it came together... and how I photocopied it Friday and mailed on following Monday. Only 14 copies were made. They were given to the willing participants. One copy is currently for sale on ebay. The original went to Keith in St. Louis. Thank you to those who submitted something:

Join The Science Center of Pinellas and the St. Petersburg Astronomy Club for a fun family evening to observe Mars, full moon, and other celestial bodies. Professor Darryl Schrader of St. Petersburg College will be lecturing on Mars at opposition.

A continued feature of this event will be to collect students (and family) names to be included on a microchip that NASA will send to Mars as part of NASA's Mars Science Laboratory mission, scheduled to launch in 2011. Participants will truly be part of Mars history!

Prevention Magazine February 2010

Ok.. I had to rip open the latest Prevention magazine... (I got the subscription from sending in organic yogurt lids last year) So on the front cover it says, "400 Calorie Fix! Drop 11 pounds in 2 weeks!" Can you imagine that? That would be two dress sizes. The key is eating 4 tiny, well balanced, nutritionally sound meals each day.... Of course there is a book... that has all these 400 calorie meal recipes... Two dress sizes and I'd be swimming in my smallest clothes... but really... sounds tempting. A few years ago I weighed like 40 pounds more than I do now. So I was more of a size 12 girl... instead of a size 6. I joined Weight Watchers and lost it in about 4 months. But it's a way of life... a way of healthy eating and portion control and all that jazz... Loosing the weight was very freeing for me as a person. I used to look at myself in the mirror and just hate me. Now I like me. I was never "fat" until after I had my dear crumbcakes. Nursing them also made me incredibly and sometimes insanely hungry. Growing up I was always on the string bean side of thin... and never really enjoyed it... actually just the opposite. I remember one boy calling me, "Ethiopian Goldilocks." How mean was that? So goes to show... until this point in my life... I was never really happy with my body. Waited forever to "develop." Now I'm on the thinner side of round... and have breasts.. and a butt... generally curvy. Am I allowed to say that I like myself? Am I allowed to move on and worry about more important things like how to loose 11 pounds in two weeks?

Today we did... what has become a Zee family tradition... picked strawberries during winter break. Then I made jam. I only made four batches of jam so it seems to me that we should of picked more... We'll see how long these batches last. The problem is Ted... he'll wipe out a whole jar in one setting... slathering it on his toast as a special feast. Can I complain? No, of course not. It's my duty to make the jam and his to eat it. It's so much better then even the best jams you can buy at the store. But perhaps I am partial. Yes, I think I am.

I'm exhausted. Just want to chill... not have to worry about mail art or art or kids or messy sticky kitchen floor... Now, who stepped on grapes and just left them? Wasn't me. Yeah, yeah... that's what they all say. Sticky mess... Jam making is almost totally cleaned up.... just a few lids to put away... for next time. And all the empty jars that the kids were using as drinking glasses are all filled up again with the red concoction. (you know after they were washed and boiled)

First of all I want to say thank you to my four fans. You mean so much to me... my faithful and loyal readers. I'm saying that tongue-in-cheek. I am still writing this as my dear diary. So if you read it pretend like you are, in fact, reading my diary... so you should probably be a little embarrassed and never bring up what you read here...

Today in the car, my Moo moo and I were heading to the local grocery store... The "Point" was playing on the radio... it's the station that plays the best of 80s, 90s and today... It happens to be Crumbcake #1's favorite radio station. Today's daily dose of memory was Guns and Roses, "Every Rose Has it's Thorn." That song takes me right back to high school. And to that girl. She sat behind me in History class. She cheated off of my quizzes... on a weekly basis. She was the prettiest girl in the school and a cheerleader. She was nice enough. I always felt bad when she cheated off of me because history is not my strong point. One Monday I came to school and the grief counselors were present. There was a car accident and she wasn't wearing her seat belt. And how fast a young life can come to a grinding, crashing hault. It was a convertible car and her body flew out on impact. Gory, gory details that don't need repeating. The whole memory of her... brought back with a song. The school had a memorial service... and that song was played. The things you don't think about... until the trigger brings you right back.

I have a secret admission to make... Last night we watched "The Rocker" with Rainn WIlson... and I really liked it. I hope you don't think less of me now. Maybe I just need some comic relief.
Last week was difficult but I"m certain that this week will be better.
I sold the Green Goddess painting... my green portrait of Lulu. I think it's at the bottom of this blog. If you scroll down, down some more.... ok... there! Ted will be working again all week away from home... this has become my new life. And we are all adjusting to it. We are becoming a well-oiled machine without Ted around... on schedule... He was home today and took the kids with him to the grocery store.... since I kinda get tired of grocery shopping--I was so thankful that he went. I did make a list though. While they were gone... I went by and visited my friend Hugo Porcaro... he is an outsider artist who is just awesome! He wanted to trade one of his paintings for one of mine! I love trading--the barter! So we traded and I have a cat tea party hanging in my living room... painted on a glass window! I really wanted to buy a really nice piece of watercolor paper but that place isn't open on Sundays... I did get some fimo clay for the kids.. cause they do wonderful things with it... especially Ben and I have two weeks with crumbcakes!

I stopped by a yardsale today... secret admission #2 I LOVE YARDSALES. A while back the cakes wanted to buy a little Shilling accordion. I think it was $20-$30. And I thought it was cute but said, "No." Well today I found an almost brand new one for $3. The teenage girl was happy to get the three dollars and the cakes are having a grand time playing it. Everything I want I can find at a yardsale. It's just a year or two later then when I first wanted it... *chuckles to her self...* I think the exception is shoes. Still, I believe that God supplies my every need and if I really needed a pair of shoes I think they would come to me... one way or another.

Well... two new crumbcakes are playing in my yard... a two year old and a four year old. That is outrageous... who lets there two and four year olds play in a stranger's yard down the street?? But in this neighborhood... I have aquired extra kids for many, many a year... especially in the spring when I pass out citrus and in the summer when I hand out cookies and popsicles... Ok... gotta go watch wee ones... cause someone has got to be responsible.
