Chicks

Friday night we returned home from dinner with Granny and Gp to find a little black chick had cracked his way out of the egg... Later I got up at 3 a.m. and there was chick number 2... a silver little guy!  So out of our 15 eggs only two hatched.  I'm not sure if the others will hatch and that my friend, makes me sad.

Surreal...

Well. I was at the art studio... having a minute to myself and working on a small painting in a new style that I am toying with... Yes, I am the rolling stone that gathers no moss...

There was this lady on her cell phone looking around the place--Salt Creek.  She was describing each painting to what I later found out was her sister on the other end.  I was daydreaming that she was talking to the co-owner of her swanky New York gallery... Alas, not the case... She made her way to my studio and asked to come in.  She looked at three of  my self portraits and began to tell what they were saying to her.  It was like she was unfolding my life before my very own eyes... She described the colors as emotions and the facial expressions as words... and in an instant she knew what I was feeling and saying for the past 10 years... it was unimaginable for me.  I had never had any one talk about my art in such a way.  It was like she saw the window into my soul.  And everything that I hadn't really said but only painted--she had unmasked.

Later she told me that was a retired school teacher and that it was her first time at Salt Creek.  She also mentioned that she had been to the Louve in Paris.  That she had seen the Mona Lisa.

Photo at the top is me playing around....

books, books, everywhere books!

Making the transition form homeschool to public... going through all the books... those that I'm too fond of to get rid of and those which no longer have a use for us... it's sad: the getting rid of books... Books everywhere... now I need some boxes...

I really don't ever improperly address a piece of mail art... I don't like to make enemies with the postal staff... but yet, I felt an urge to address this piece as such... and stamps as so.  We'll see if it gets there... really not far to go... just a little human reading.

Yesterday we went and saw the new Star Trek... I must say that I loved it.  Wow, a movie without an agenda, and not based on some horrible past atrocity... a movie to just "escape".  Thank you hollywood.  You probably won't see me writing that again any time soon...

I've been so busy with art, art and mail art.  Save the date--Chromatophore opens August 27th at Studio 620.  Be there or not but really you should try to be there.  I'm so excited!!!

School year is winding down.  Almost over... my reign of homeschool is almost over too.  Next year I'm sending the crumbcakes back to school.  So this will not longer be Wee-Hoo's looking glass: life of a homeschool artist mom... it may be more like... Wee-Hoo: life an artist.  Ok, mom too...

Hey if you are interested in some new music check out Joel Malizia on itunes.  I like his music and you should too!

Some outgoing mail...

I've been back into the swing of mail art... and it's feeling pretty good.  Mail art gives you wings... forget the red bull...

The Ray concert was excellent... all except some gals who thought their cat calling was really cute... when in fact, it was very annoying... Ray took it well... they called out names of songs--like "Trouble" and he said that a concert was like making love to a woman, you have to take it nice and slow... you don't just jump on... So I think "Trouble" was second to last on the play list. If you get a chance go see and hear him play... he is excellent live.  (ray lamontagne)  We were in the historic Tampa Theater--that place is utterly gorgeous--built in 1926 I believe... look it up at www.tampatheater.org  I think.
